Astronomy and Photography in the Canary Islands

From 7 to 16 August 2023, together with my colleague Stefan Seip and tour guide Marion-Patricia Dzigas, I will be accompanying a Studiosus group to observe and photograph the stars over Tenerife and La Palma. After two days in the historic old town of San Cristobal de La Laguna, we head up to the Teide National Park and our hotel, the Parador del Teide. Here the sky is fantastically clear and we can observe nature and the stars in all clarity and tranquillity. Besides numerous lectures on photography (by Stefan Seip) and astronomy (by Peter Habison), we visit the Observatorio del Teide on Friday. On Saturday, our journey will take us to the neighbouring island of La Palma, where we will visit the Observatorio del Roque de los Muchachos, a centre of astronomical research in Europe, on 14 August.

Thanks to my long-standing professional contacts as well as my work at the Institute of Astrophysics of the Canary Islands (IAC), our group will have the opportunity to visit the observatory not only during the day, but also in the early hours of the night.

I wish all participants of our Studiosus group an exciting and interesting stay under the stars of the Canary Islands. Clear Skies and Good Luck!
