UNDER SURVEILLANCE: EARTH OBSERVATION AS AN OPPORTUNITY FOR THE FUTURE OF THE ENVIRONMENT
At the beginning of October, the Society of Austrian Planetariums launched a new ERASMUS+ partnership of four planetariums and an expert company for satellite technology. The project aims to contribute to informal learning in the field of environmental and digital literacy. The aim is to raise awareness of Earth observation as a powerful tool for environmental science, to encourage visitors to the planetariums in an attractive way not only for lifelong learning but also for critical thinking, to improve the pedagogical skills of their own staff, and to network and globalize the planetariums and institutions involved.
During the two-year implementation phase, six multilateral meetings will be held in five countries to share our specific know-how and accompany each other’s activities. 11 experts from five institutions will be involved in the creation of the programme. Within this period, a programme for digital planetariums in 6 language versions on the topic of “Earth observation and its use in the fight against climate change” will be developed and then freely available to all planetariums. The project is our contribution to the themes of sustainability, digitalisation and participation.
